The origin of

American Football can be traced back to « Rugby Football » and « Association

Football » that were played in the United Kingdom in the mid-19th century.

A significant development in the evolution of American Football happened when

Walter Camp, at Yale University, began to establish specific rules. He is

considered the Father of American Football. College football started gaining

more popularity as the college teams attracted nationwide audiences. In 1920, the

American Football Association was formed and was renamed as the National

Football League (NFL) two years later. The NFL eventually became the major

league of American Football.
