English debate club discussion on online learning. You should give a

3 to 5-minute talk in which you present your opinion on the issue. After the

talk, you should answer three questions.

Study the material provided below (the content and arguments) in order to plan

your talk.

In your talk you should:

• formulate the issue raised in the material,

• compare the information provided in the material,

• state your opinion on the issue,

• support your opinion with at least two arguments, including reasons and

examples,

• come to a conclusion.

Online courses have expanded rapidly and

have the potential to extend further the educational opportunities of many

students particularly those least well served by traditional educational

institutions. However, in their current design online courses are difficult,

especially for the students who are least prepared. These students’ learning

and persistence outcomes are worse when they take online courses than they

would have been had these same students taken in-person courses.
